Dewey Discoveries; looking forward to your special day

Greetings Dewey Dwellers :) hehe

How has your week been? How was your year been? I was driving home today and realised it's almost the end of 2010! My golly goodness, it almost feels like time is slipping through my fingers like sand. I guess it's exciting and daunting at the same time... but maybe we shall save this conversation for later when the weather is fine hehe

A few days ago I went to a beautiful wedding and was very much touched by their wonderful love towards each other.  The bride was so pretty and the groom so handsome, they were so perfect for each other and made me picture what my wedding day might look like hehe, I really hope something very similar.  The ceremony was also wonderfully organised and instead of the chase for fancy venues and over-priced accessories: a warm, loving and welcoming atmosphere buzzed in the air :)

Dewey Discovery Within

Dearest Dewey Readers,

It has been awhile :) sorry for the lack of posts, my life has been an absolute whirlwind.  A whirlwind of sleepless nights, unanswered questions, deadlines, solutions, problems, silly mistakes, arguements, achievements, disappointments, more sleepless nights, and of course dewey discoveries :) Even in one month I feel like I'm constantly...constantly learning, I think it's almost like a process of coming to terms with who I am.  A process of gaining assurance and knowing that I'm Christian, female, asian, australian, interior designer, architect, daughter, friend and sister- (what a weirdo hotpot of a person tehe...) but it's taking me longer than I expected to accept each 'disposition' and be happy with it..

I remember once having a dream to save the world through design, to make the world a better place through design. In the midst of looking for jobs and trying to earn money, I guess it's faded to the point of almost disappearing.  But these days I'm being reminded again that design still makes me excited, and makes my blood boil hehe 

I think everyone has something inside that makes their blood boil passionately, whether it be changing weathers, delicious food, music, sports, the human body, painting, styling clothes, gardening, baking cupcakes, shopping, maths, musicals, books, the 19th century, singing, writing, dancing, history, the spirit...  perhaps it's just a matter of discovering one and consolidating it.. hehe

Dewey discovery: a life on pause

Dearest Deweree,

Graduation is near and a pile of work must be done...

I'm looking forward to the day of presentation,

when this pressure will hopefully be taken off me.

I wonder where my life is heading...

Dewey treasures on home ground

Dearest dewey readers,

How are you feeling today?

Hope you're enjoying the warm weather with early sunrises and longer sunsets.  

There also seems to be an increasing number of brochures advertising 

beautifully packaged Christmas hampers and Christmas decorations. 

This week there were many voices in my mind, quite similar to the sound you hear in an assembly hall, 

where people talk amongst themselves and voice their conclusions on life...a distant murmur of opinions.  

In times like these, I guess I should keep reminding myself
of the one voice that really matters to me.  

The voice that tells me everything will be alright in due time.  

I hope you have that voice too..

Here are some photos of the Guggenheim Museum by Frank Lloyd Wright,

it has a long spiralling ramp that creates the outer skin of the building.  

It starts from ground level and reaches to the skylight above, 

this creates a unifying encased interior.

Mr. Wright demonstrated that technology could create intimate

and monumental spaces, similar to the Pantheon.

I remember it almost being a spiritual experience ..

I hope one day my interiors can create a similar experience to this...

It's Youtube Tuesday, 

and I wonder what videos are waiting for us today..

This is absolutely amazing, it's a clip of how the sea sponge works and they're
apparently called the filterers of the sea. They look very dull
but they're very much alive, working very hard, constantly filtering the ocean's water..
As they inject the harmless ink next to the sponge, it quickly filters the pigment through its
thick outer skin and pumps it through the middle...so wonderful..

 Frank Gehry is a genious, his instincts are so intune with this idea..
his forms express the idea ever so accurately.. ahh.. so much respect,
Note to self: need to make more models

Dewey discoveries in the details

Dearest dewey readers... how was your weekend? hehe
Relaxing and quiant I hope :)

To complete a picture, I've recently noticed
that subtle details can make a big difference..

Such as, this happy red checkerboard tablecloth. 

It seems to add that signature touch to the Italian restaurant..

 

or bright yellow joints that transform this heavy metal screen

into a delicate piece of jewellry...

or lush green vines that adorn this lovely house,

juxtaposing composite colours in real life..

and Utzon's bland round lamps... almost unnoticed during the day,

but at night provides that magical glow for our harbour..

Dewey discoveres on Mudies

A small path that's possibly a secret shortcut route,

yet to be discovered by kids running late for school...

I have a feeling this house has a wonderful workshop hidden behind those doors...

Everytime I walk past the grandpa seems to be hammering or sawing away at something,

I'm yet to witness his creations :)
