Steve Jobs - my inspiration

My passion has been to build an enduring company where people were motivated to make great products.  Everything else was secondary.  Sure, it was great to make a profit, because that was what allowed you to make great products.  But the products, not the profits, were the motivation.  Sculley flipped these priorities to where the goal was to make money.  It's a subtle difference, but it ends up meaning everything: the people you hire, who gets promoted, what you discuss in meetings.

Some people say, "Give the customers what they want."

Dewey Discovery: Weekend Favourites!

Bonjour my dear deweyers!
Last weekend I attended Saturday in Design which is a design festival held every two years, pretty much celebrating design.  It was awesome to see industry people and bumped into a few of my class mates!
I went with Lulu and Richie such a pleasant fun time! I was reminded again why I chose this courier path.
Basically because I love it and makes me happy, hehe
Here are some photos!

Lamp shade made of coral, love how the light seaps through translucent material

Slightly freaky tipi with broken plates and crows. Love :)

Love, the chandelier, marble table

Another tipi with smeg fridge and fresh cupcakes!

It's quite cliche but, white timberchairs with tree motfis add a warm touch to the dining area.
The reflective table surface also adds more interest to the ambience, very nicely done :)

A mirror frame for this boudoir chair, adds a luxurious touch without overdoing it,
very cute!

I think this is a brass framed table, I loved it! such character to the piece

Was a pleasant surprise to find red velvet cupcakes at the exit, and alas it
matches with dear Lulu's beautiful red hair! hehe

Another show room called 'cafe culture' they sold beautiful cafe furniture,
I think hands down they had the best entrance from indesign festival, the candles on a plain white wall and
coloured chiffon like curtains on one side - balancing the boldness of the white wall.
At the end of the passage there's also a small shelf tower to interest the eye, simple and cute :)

This is what it looks like from the other side :)

Free food!

Free food mmm, added to the fun :)

Who would've know such a nice heritage house was next to central station

Recycled materials made into lights, this design actually was overdone in design festivals
in Europe Geyer have done well on this one :)
Lulu!

One of my favourite pieces, they were such a bright lovely yellow,
that glowed with a warmth that made you very happy, would be lovely
to have one in my room hehe

The showroom my boss designed, studio becker, this is the entrance,
I love the fluidity of the form and how it sucks you into the gallery space, it welcomes you and
guides you at the same time :)

These cute glowing houses :)

I couldn't get enough of showbags! hehe I think I had 5 by the end of the day...

Yellow bamboo like chairs - aloha!

Shnazzy letterbozes hehe

Yellow stools with small lip back supports, subtle but makes a huge difference to comfort!

Lovely lovely cork lights, sustainble and looks great

Cork and ceramic lights :)

A display of beautiful pendant lights!
All shapes and sizes, the mess of it all somehow seems coordinated too..

We snuck into a lovely vintage shop after the show,
they were artefacts from all over the world! The owner was very interesting :)

Cute jellybean cart from tongue n groove hehe

Tree shadow on empty wall, hehe

This is our little visit to the lovely artefacts shop near redfern...
It was magical.. the whole day was magical :)

Thank you lovely friends.. thank you design :)
Hope you deweyers have a lovely lovely week!
Love always

In search of Deweys

These days...I don't seem to know what I want,
nor know who I am, or where I stand or who to trust,
I guess I'm just really confused.

Work is really hard, in an architecture firm starting out being an intern - you get the coffee, sort out receipts and do the dirty work which was somewhat expected.  But I guess I didn't expect how it would affect me mentally, I can understand why asian parents don't want their kids to be in an industry that doesn't guarantee jobs.  I followed my dream and love of design and this is where I landed, in an unsure place where my position wasn't guaranteed even after probation period - there were times when tears ran down my cheeks looking out the window on the train, wondering whether I would ever make it to the other side.  I felt like one of those actresses who had to pave their way into the industry because nothing, is guaranteed.  My boss told me that he didn't need me, but I just kept working hard. I didn't think, it was better not to think.
Dreams seemed like such a distant notion now, I'd be happy to just get the lowest position in this firm.  My position is somewhat secure now, but even then no one really knows until I've worked about a year or so.  Compared to what my friends are getting, my salary is not that great, but it doesn't bother me much.  I'm happy to be part of this firm.  I like who I work with, but now I'm not so sure as much... it's that similar feeling I got when I studied Mark Rothko or Pollock, they had passion and ambition but something was lacking.

I'm still content and thankful :)
I'm sure there's a dewey in all of this somewhere :)

Dewey discoveries in changing tides

My dear deweyers, how do you do?
Weekends are beautiful aren't they? Whoever invented weekends I really do appreciate them :)
I wonder how you're lives are going, does it feel like the same cycle every week? I sometimes feel that too, if not, you are a lucky person :)  After working everyday for almost 3 and a half months, I've learnt to appreciate the small things in life.  I am constantly surrounded by people who live the moment, work really hard and also work towards their dreams and everyday does seem like a special day - if you choose it to be :)

I decided that I'm done with planning out my life for the next 5 years, oh what a liberating feeling it is :) I've learnt that life doesn't always happen the way you want it to..hence I will live passionately, work hard, love the people around me and work towards dreams! :)

I will leave some quotes for you, hope they enlighten you in some way :)

:)

please do :)

aye aye :)

so true :D

it's a choice :)

good encouragement :)

tetris! hahaha always taking its time :P

Hope you have a lovely weekend and week dear friends!

love, the deweyer

Dewey Discovery during the Easter Break

Hello my dearest brave Deweyers,
I hope you are enjoying this Easter weekend. Whether it's going on a road trip,
watching movies, spending time with friends, reading books or even sleeping. :)

Today is Easter Sunday which is also the day when Jesus rose again, and looking back...
His existence in my life has been very precious to me.  There were times when I was so caught up
in my world of lush culture and I often forgot I was Christian.  Then there were times when it was
so hard to overcome pain that without Him it would've been very difficult to picture hope in the future.
But I know that He was blessing me all the time, whether I was meeting new people or
going for an interview.  I thank God that He protects me, gives me hope and freedom each day...
I was working on my studio today and came across some journals I wrote during high school and university.
They were letters I had written to God about thoughts and happenings,
it amazed me how raw and open I was to Him.
It made me wonder if I could ever be open like that again... I hope I can :)
-------

Here is a sneak peak of my new studio room, it's almost done!
It was something I wanted to do since the beginning of this year,
which was organising a studio room where I could make and create things.

My fascination for glass bottles and dried sea sponges creeps me out
but somehow kinda makes sense in my head too :)

Hope you enjoyed,
I hope God blesses your life in someway this Easter break :)

love, the Deweyer

Unveiling Deweys; Yves Klein

God the Father Almighty, it is with faith that I ask you,
in the name of Christ Your son Jesus of Nazereth, to grant me the presence of the
Holy Ghost in the Gallery during my exhibition. Create for me an exceptional atmosphere,
let an invisible yet real and powerfully and terribly beautiful light raise this event
to the highest spiritual and existential level of visions.  Let everyone without exception
see the supernatural that is in art so that faith, the new faith of art may enter them all,
and all men may enter into a great new world wide visualisation of the beautiful.

SO BE IT.

Dewey Discovery from our daily rituals

Dear Deweyers
How do you do?
Today I looked out the window of the train with a happy sigh as it crossed the Harbour Bridge.
I admired the glistening water, the dissipated white cubes of homes amongst the green landscape,
the crystal-like skyscrapers, the brave curvaceous lines of the Opera House
masked by strong steel frames of the bridge and I couldn't help but think, how a beautiful it all was.
What a beautiful day.

I started reading a new book called 'The Alchemist' my friend from work gave it to me
and I was absolutely thrilled! I love receiving books for presents,
there are so many memories entailed with books,
and I know I will always remember her when I read this book even when she returns to Germany.
I just finished reading Anne of Green Gables and Little Lord Fauntleroy,
the amount of revelations and epiphanies reading these books in the train,
cafes and on the steps outside our office is invaluable.
I will elaborate on them some other time over a chai latte.

I know today will be very much similar to yesterday but there is
something different in the air today and I shall savour its beauties.

Have a glorious Friday my dear friends :)

Dewey Discoveries: cool ideas

Hello Deweyers :)
How are you these days? It's already autumn in Sydney and I could
feel the air had changed today, the sun was still warm and welcoming,
yet the air had turned a little crispier and colder.
I hope your autumn will be beautiful and colourful!

Here are some cool design ideas
Hope you enjoy :)

Drinking tea would be so much fun

The gradient of the paint and texture of timber is really cool

Using the packaging as the lamp shade!
These are a must-have, bulldozer forks! :)

Cabin pods for your home :)
Almost like fusing nomadic hippiness with stable shelters

Hope you have a lovely weekend dearests :)
